The Senate buildings - Palazzo della Minerva

Cloister

The "Guidetti Cloister, adjacent to the Chapterhouse of the convent of Santa Maria sopra Minerva, is named after architect Guidetto Guidetti, who designed it in the late 16th century. It is decorated with a magnificent pictorial cycle in the Mannerist and Early Baroque style, with the "Mysteries of the Rosary" and "Scenes from the Life of Saint Thomas Aquinas"

A bronze statue cast in 2003 by Sandro Chia stands in the garden of the cloister: it is a single-winged angel raising a golden heart towards the sky. The artist reminds humankind that it must keep united and sympathetic to be able to make its age-old aspiration to flight and freedom come true.
